Record-setting Albaladejo among Triple-A nominees
One of five IL relievers nominated for the Triple-A MiLBY, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Jonathan Albaladejo set a league record with 43 saves. Durham's Winston Abreu fanned 82 batters in just 55 1/3 frames, and Craig Kimbrel of Gwinnett struck out 83 in 55 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .148 average. Joel Peralta posted a 1.08 ERA in 28 outings for Syracuse, Dennis Sarfate notched 20 saves for Norfolk, and in the PCL, Portland's Ernesto Frieri limited hitters to a .114 average against before promotion to San Diego. Top pick Moskos shined for Curve in 2010
Left-hander Daniel Moskos recorded 21 saves and a 1.52 ERA in the regular season and tossed 13 scoreless playoff frames as Altoona won the Eastern League crown. Montgomery's Matt Gorgen led the Southern League with 22 saves while Richmond's Rafael Cova paced the Eastern League with 23. Brandon Gomes of San Antonio pitched 72 1/3 innings in 51 appearances and posted a 1.87 ERA with 93 strikeouts. Veteran Jon Huber saved 18 games for Chattanooga, and 6-foot-6 Pedro Beato notched four victories and 16 saves for Bowie. More »





FSL boasted terrific relievers in 2010
The Class A Advanced nominees feature three Florida State League pitchers. Zachary Quate anchored the FSL's top pitching staff with 25 saves and 90 strikeouts in 72 1/3 innings for Charlotte, Matt Daly saved 31 games for Dunedin, and ambidextrous hurler Pat Venditte fanned 85 while walking just 14 for champion Tampa. Kinston's Cory Burns saved a Carolina League-high 30 games; the second-place reliever recorded 17. Lynchburg's Jordan Hotchkiss posted a 0.95 WHIP over 113 2/3 innings and Brad Brach's 41 saves for Lake Elsinore were third-most in the Minors. More »





Shuman, Ames topped Midwest League bullpen arms
Bowling Green's Scott Shuman led all Midwest League relievers with 111 strikeouts in 71 2/3 innings. In limited action with Great Lakes, Steven Ames earned 16 saves in 23 outings while recording a 0.85 WHIP. Cedar Rapids' John Hellweg yielded 20 hits over 43 2/3 frames, good for a .133 average against, and Miles Mikolas saved 12 games in the final month of the season for Fort Wayne. Augusta's Jose Casilla posted a 1.16 ERA in 46 appearances, and Josh Zeid went 8-4 with 111 strikeouts for Sally League champion Lakewood. More »





Yakima's opponents Bear-ly had a chance late
A pair of Yakima Bears -- right-hander Kable Hogben and southpaw Eury De La Rosa -- dominated the Northwest League with a 0.72 and 1.00 ERA, respectively. Ogden's Shawn Tolleson led the Pioneer League with 17 saves and a 0.63 mark. Chase Whitley pitched to a 1.31 ERA and converted 15 of 17 save opportunities for Staten Island. Hector Corpas led Johnson City to its first Appalachian League championship since 1976 with a league-high 17 saves and walked just three batters in 25 1/3 frames, and Bruce Rondon led the Gulf Coast League with 15 saves while posting a 0.70 ERA.
