Chiefs unveil new home jersey for 2010
02/18/2010 3:16 PM ET
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, unveiled today the team's new home jerseys for the 2010 season.

The new jersey design is similar in color scheme and logo placement to the design introduced as part of the team's re-branding prior to the 2007 season. However, the new design features all black sleeves and shoulders. The new concept was developed in conjunction with Plan B Branding, a creative ideas company that helps clubs transform their brands.

The sleeve and shoulder design was inspired by Negro League uniforms of yesteryear, and the Chiefs will be the only Minor League Baseball team to sport such a look in the upcoming season.

"We are excited to unveil a fresh new look for the upcoming season that is consistent with our current brand," said Chiefs general manager, John Simone. "It is particularly exciting to be ahead of the curve in the area of jersey design, thanks to the help of Plan B Branding."

The Chiefs will continue to wear the red alternate jerseys and hats that were introduced prior to last season for select 2010 home games. The team's gray road jersey and black batting practice jersey will also remain unchanged for the 2010 campaign.

The new jersey design is just one of many ways the Chiefs will celebrate 50 years of community ownership in 2010. After losing baseball following the 1955 season, and again midway through the 1957 campaign, a group of local businessmen organized a stock drive to purchase the Montreal franchise of the International League and move it to Syracuse for the 1961 season. The Community Baseball Club of Central New York, Inc., has operated the franchise in every season since, keeping baseball in what has become one of the smallest markets in all of Triple-A Baseball.

Opening Day is slated for Thursday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m., with the Chiefs set to host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the first game of a six-game homestand. Ticket packages are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the Chiefs ticket office at Alliance Bank Stadium, by calling 315-474-7833, or at online.
