Chiefs introduce anniversary logo03/02/2010 11:00 AM ET
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, unveiled today a new secondary logo that will be used by the team this year to celebrate the franchise's 50th season of community ownership.
The new logo, which was developed in conjunction with Plan B Branding, will be used by the Chiefs in print and television marketing campaigns and will also appear as a sleeve patch on the team's jerseys. The Chiefs and Plan B also worked together to develop the team's new identity prior to the 2007 season as well as last year's "On Track to Washington" theme. Plan B is a national creative ideas company that helps Major and Minor League clubs and leagues transform their brands.
"We are very excited to introduce this logo as part of our 'Fiftieth Season of Community Ownership' celebration," said Chiefs General Manager John Simone. "The combination of a headdress and the current train logo symbolize the transformation from old to new while creating an identity our fans can relate to."
After losing baseball following the 1955 season and again midway through the 1957 campaign, a group of local businessmen organized a stock drive to purchase the Montreal franchise of the International League and move it to Syracuse for the 1961 season. The Community Baseball Club of Central New York, Inc. has operated the franchise in every season since, keeping baseball in what has become one of the smallest markets in all of Triple-A Baseball.
The Chiefs will open the 2010 regular season on Thursday, April 8 at Alliance Bank Stadium against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at 2pm.
