Legends card series 2012 05/01/2012 6:53 PM ET
Rochester Red Wings
The Rochester Red Wings have long been one of Minor League Baseball's legendary franchises, and the longest continuous member of the International League. The storied tradition of the players, field staff and off-field contributors have helped to bridge generations of Wings fans. Our rich history will again be celebrated this season with a series of Red Wings Legends card strips. At five different games, the first 1,000 fans age 21 and older will receive a card strip featuring four different players who became part of the Red Wings legacy. The series features Red Wings Hall of Famers, former players who went on to big league fame and stardom, and popular fan favorites from Red Wing Stadium, Silver Stadium and Frontier Field. The series is sponsored by local card collector and promoter Ernie Orlando. His Collectorfest Monthly event in Webster is the only regularly scheduled monthly collectibles show in Western New York. "I'm excited to be able to combine my love for collecting with the great history of the Rochester Red Wings," said Orlando. His father and grandfather ran Ness' Barber Shop on Park Avenue, and Orlando said he remembers his dad and grandfather telling him which Wings players used to come to their barber shop - especially his favorite player, Roric Harrison, from the memorable season of 1971. "There are always Red Wings fans at my sports card and collectible shows. The Legends card strip giveaways are a great old-fashioned way to help inspire people to collect. I really hope it stirs some great memories," Orlando said. Here's the lineup of the 2012 Red Wings Legends card strip giveaway dates:
The 2012 card set design was created by RIT College of Imaging Arts & Sciences School of Design student John Sinsabaugh's Mindfull Design Studio, and printed by Conolly Printing in Gates.
