06/19/2010 12:00 AM ET

ROUND ROCK, TX - For a second consecutive night, the Omaha Royals scored four runs in the eleventh inning to defeat the Round Rock Express 5-1 in the series opener. The win, couple with a Memphis Redbird defeat, puts the Royals into first place in the American Conference North, percentage points ahead of Iowa Cubs.

Designated hitter Scott Thorman broke the 1-1 deadlock with solo blast off former O-Royal Brad Thompson (0-2). Later in the inning, Cody Clark swatted a three-run shot off of Thompson up the lead to 5-1.

Reliever Matt Herges (3-2) pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Royals starting pitcher Philip Humber, pitching just nine days after taking a line drive off the face that required 18 stitches, threw seven spectacular innings, allowing just three hits and one run.

The Royals, now 3-2 on their current roadtrip, continue their four-game series with the Express, top farm club of the Houston Astros. Right-hander Manauris Baez comes up from Class-A Wilmington to make Triple-A debut for Omaha against former O-Royal Shane Loux. First pitch at 7:05 CDT.
