The Buffalo Bisons today announced that OF KIRK NIEWENUIS has been promoted to the club from the Double-A Binghamton Mets.

The Bisons also announced that RHP BRIAN BRUNEY has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to August 3.

Nieuwenhuis, 22, was an Eastern League All-Star for Binghamton and hit .289 (114-394) with 35 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs, 60RBI, 13 stolen bases and 81 runs scored in 94 games. With 53 extra-base hits on the season, Nieuwenhuis had six more extra-base hits than any other player in the league. The outfielder also ranked 2nd in the E.L. in doubles and runs scored and third in total bases (203).

The Mets 3rd round selection in the 2008 First Year Player Draft is in just his third season as a pro. In 2009, he was named a Florida State League All-Star with Single-A St. Lucie. He hit .274 (132-482) with 35 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs and 71RBI in 123 games for St. Lucie and led the FSL with a .656 slugging percentage.

Bruney has not pitched since July 27. He is 0-1 with a 4.50ERA in nine starts with the Bisons (8.0IP, 9H, 7R, 4ER, 7BB, 7K).
