Four Players Optioned to Knights

Carter, Dolsi, Escobar, and Gartrell Sent to Charlotte

FORT MILL, S.C.  - The Charlotte Knights have received four players from the Chicago White Sox.  Pitchers Anthony Carter and Freddy Dolsi, infielder Eduardo Escobar, and outfielder Stefan Gartrell were optioned to Charlotte by the White Sox.

Carter made 44 relief appearances last season for the Birmingham Barons, going 1-4 with a 3.92 ERA (25 ER/57.1 IP).  The 24 year old right hander made four Cactus League appearances for the White Sox this spring as he compiled a 1.93 ERA (1 ER/4.2 IP).

Dolsi made 38 relief appearances for the Knights in 2010, compiling a 3-7 record and a 4.91 ERA (50 ER/91.2 IP).  The 28 year old right hander from the Dominican Republic made four Cactus League appearances for the White Sox this spring as he compiled a 9.64 ERA (5 ER/4.2 IP).

Escobar spent time with the Winston-Salem Dash and Birmingham Barons in the 2010 season, batting .277 (158-570) with six home runs and 61 RBI in 136 games.  Escobar made 13 Cactus League appearances this spring and batted .190 (4-21).  The 22 year old will enter the 2011 baseball season ranked by Baseball America as the Best Defensive Infielder in the White Sox system.

Gartrell hit .255 (136-534) with 20 doubles, 27 home runs, and 80 RBI in 139 games in the 2010 season with the Charlotte Knights.  Gartrell ranked second in the International League in home runs (27) and total bases (239) and led the league in games played (139).  The 25 year old outfielder made nine appearances for the White Sox in the Cactus League this spring hitting .313 (5-16) with two home runs and four RBI.

The Knights regular season starts on April 7th at 11:15 AM when they take on the Norfolk Tides.  The Knights will play an exhibition game against the University of North Carolina-Charlotte men's baseball team on April 5th at 7:15 PM at Knights Stadium.
