Green Shines, But Hawks Fall Again 04/08/2011 9:48 PM ETFort Wayne, IN - South Bend starter Tyler Green pitched 5.0 scoreless innings in his professional debut, but it was not enough as the Fort Wayne TinCaps rallied for a 5-1 victory on Friday night at Parkview Field. Green struck out six, while allowing just one hit and one walk in his first ever Minor League appearance. He departed with a 1-0 lead, but was unable to walk away with the victory. Fort Wayne scored twice in the sixth and three times in the seventh to rally from a 1-0 deficit on their way to the 5-1 victory. The TinCaps managed seven hits and took advantage of three Silver Hawks errors in those two innings to improve to 2-0 on the season. Jeff Shields (LP, 0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in his 3.0 innings of relief. Shields, in a piggyback system with Green, was making his South Bend debut out of the bullpen and tallied one strikeout without allowing a walk. South Bend grabbed the lead against Zach Cates (ND) in the top of the sixth inning when Zach Walters ignited a rally with a two-out single. After Yazy Arbelo walked, Matt Helm greeted reliever Matt Hardy (WP, 1-0) with a single to left-center for his first RBI of the year and the 1-0 lead. Fort Wayne answered immediately, tying the game against Shields with an infield RBI single from Donovan Tate. One batter later, Tate got caught in a rundown between first and second, but held up the Silver Hawks defense long enough for B.J. Guinn to score from third, giving the TinCaps a 2-1 lead. Fort Wayne extended the lead in the seventh, piecing together four hits while taking advantage of three Silver Hawks errors. Wes Cunningham, Tommy Medica, and Emmanuel Quiles were all credited with RBIs in the inning. The Silver Hawks were held to just three hits on the night and have managed only seven hits through the first two games of the season. Game three of the four game series takes place Saturday evening with a 5:05 PM Eastern Time first pitch. LHP Patrick Schuster will toe the rubber for South Bend against Fort Wayne's RHP Matt Branham.
