ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- MiLB Vero Beach announced today that The Umpire School (TUS), which it owns and operates, has added Mark Stubblefield to its staff as medical coordinator. Stubblefield will instruct students on nutrition, fitness, injury prevention and overall health and wellness at TUS, the only all-inclusive professional baseball umpire school.

His addition means that students attending The Umpire School at Vero Beach Sports Village in January will benefit from going to the only umpiring training school with a certified athletic trainer on staff. Supervisors of the Professional Baseball Umpire Corp. (PBUC) will serve as instructors at The Umpire School.

"Mark's 11-plus years in professional baseball, combined with serving as the medical coordinator for Minor League umpires, will provide those who choose TUS another added benefit to help them obtain their goals," PBUC executive director, Justin Klemm, said. "In setting a new standard, we believe nutrition, health and wellness are as important as the technical aspects of umpiring. Mark will help keep our students on the field and prepare them for the rigors of a long season, no matter what level they work."

Stubblefield currently coordinates the preventative care and injury treatment of Minor League umpires throughout the United States and Canada for PBUC. He joined the MiLB staff in February, after a 10-year career as a certified athletic trainer with the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals.

Stubblefield received a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University in 2000 and a Master's degree in 2001 from California University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) and the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).

The Umpire School is an all-inclusive training ground that will host its first class of umpires next year at Vero Beach Sports Village from Jan. 8-Feb. 5. Please visit for more information.

MiLB Vero Beach and PBUC are both subsidiaries of Minor League Baseball.
