R-Phils hire merchandising manager

READING, Pa. -- The Reading Phillies, the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies since 1967 - the longest affiliation in all of baseball, are pleased to announce the hiring of Jason Yonkovitch to their full-time front office staff. Yonkovitch, 23, has been named as the team's merchandising manager, after interning with Reading for the entire 2011 season in that same role.

"As an intern, Jason did a great job with the opening of the Mitchell & Ness R-Phils Team Store -- the first team store in the club's 45-year history," said R-Phils GM Scott Hunsicker. "As the store continues to grow, we felt like having someone like Jason there on a daily basis would be beneficial for us. He's been working in and around the ballpark since he was a batboy, and fits in perfectly with our hard-working staff."

Yonkovitch, a graduate of Muhlenberg High School, spent the 2011 season as the R-Phils merchandise intern under R-Phils merchandise director, Kevin Sklenarik. The 2011 season, however, was not the first time Jason has been a part of the R-Phils family.

The Reading native began working for the R-Phils in 2000 as a batboy, and spent three summers in that role. Over the next five seasons (2003-2007), Yonkovitch served as a clubhouse assistant. A product of York College of Pa., Yonkovitch returned in 2008 and spent two seasons as an intern for the R-Phils. His last internship (2011), helped him land a full-time role in Baseballtown.

"I feel like all of my hard work over the years has paid off," said Yonkovitch. "There is no other place I would rather be than right here in Reading. I'm excited to continue working here in Reading, and look forward to bringing more to the table each and every day."

The Reading Phillies 2012 season will get underway old-school style with an Opening Day doubleheader on Thu, April 5 at FirstEnergy Stadium. 2012 Season Tickets and Mini-Plans are available now, and fans can call 610-370-BALL [2255], log-on to www.readingphillies.com online, or stop by the R-Phils Ticket Office, which is located at FirstEnergy Stadium.
