Fisher Cats Rally But Fall Short Saturday04/14/2012 5:02 PM ET
New Hampshire (3-6) trailed 7-1 going to the bottom of the ninth inning. Brad McElroy walked and Brian Jeroloman was hit-by-pitch before Kevin Howard (3-for-3, HR, 3 RBI) drilled his first home run of the season to make it 7-4. Justin Jackson (2-for-3) reached on a bunt single, Jonathan Diaz singled and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. John Tolisano's ground out made it 7-5. After Ryan Goins hit a sacrifice fly to score Diaz, Brian Van Kirk doubled. But Koby Clemens struck out to end the game.
Logan Darnell (2-0) worked the first five innings without allowing a run. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out one. Daniel Turpen, the fifth New Britain pitcher, recorded his first save of the season.
New Hampshire's Brad Glenn extended his hitting streak to a team-high seven games singling in the seventh inning. Glenn moved to second on a single by Howard. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Glenn scored on a Justin Jackson's RBI groundout to make it 7-1.
New Britain (7-3), in defeating the Fisher Cats for the third straight day, plated three runs in the second inning against losing pitcher Brett Cecil (0-2) and added three more in the third inning. Chris Colabello (3-for-5) and Aaron Hicks (2-for-5) each had hits and scored runs in both innings and Deibinson Romero doubled and drove in two runs in the third as the Rock Cats built a 6-0 lead.
Cecil allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits. He walked three and struck out four.
Matt Daly, Aaron Loup and Ron Uviedo all worked in relief for the Fisher Cats.
The two teams now play the final game of their initial series of the season on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. The Fisher Cats will celebrate a CCSNH Reading Challenge Day and kids can run the bases after the game courtesy of the Buyers Beware program.
