Springer enjoys best day as pro 04/25/2012 1:30 AM ETBy Robert Emrich / Special to MLB.com
George Springer's bat looks like it may have woken up. The Astros' No. 3 prospect collected four hits and drove in three runs as Lancaster defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 6-3, on Tuesday. After singling in his first two at-bats, Springer tripled to left field, scoring a pair of runs in the JetHawks' five-run fourth inning. Two innings later, the 2011 first-rounder smacked an RBI triple to right field. Springer entered the game batting .214 with five extra-base hits for the JetHawks. However over his last four games the 22-year-old center fielder is 7-for-17 with three triples and four RBIs. Overall Springer is batting .257 with a .742 OPS in 18 California League games. The University of Connecticut Product had never smacked four hits in a game since becoming a pro. His previous high was two hits and the three RBIs are the most since he plated five on Opening Day. Jiovanni Mier, the Astros' first-round pick in 2009, was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Bobby Doran earned his second win after fanning seven and allowing one run on three hits over seven innings. Austin Gallagher slugged a solo homer for the Quakes, his third homer in seven games. |
