Wheeler was able to keep Erie hitters off balance all day, with his mid-90s fastball and knee-buckling off speed pitches, en route to a 7-1 Binghamton victory.

During his 5 2/3 innings, Wheeler held the SeaWolves to 1 run on just 1 hit and 3 walks, while striking out 6.

In the first inning, Binghamton hitters gave Wheeler all the support he would end up needing, scoring 2 runs off of Erie starter Mark Sorensen. Those 2 runs came off of the bat of second baseman Reese Havens, who drilled a Sorensen offering over the fence, and over Holland Street, for a 2-run homer. After 32 pitches, Sorensen would escape the first inning without further damage, thanks to a web gem of a double play turned in by shortstop Nuiman Romero and Brandon Douglas.

Binghamton would strike for another 2 runs off of Sorensen in the second inning. Centerfielder Matt Den Dekker tripled down the right field line, scoring Pedro Zapata. The next batter, Josh Rodriguez walked, and then was caught in a rundown trying to steal second, which allowed Den Dekker to score from third. Sorensen's day would be done after just 2 innings of work.

Zapata led off the fourth inning with a triple to the gap in left center off of Erie reliever Patrick Cooper. Den Dekker followed with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Zapata and giving Binghamton a 5-0 lead.

Binghamton added their final 2 runs in the fifth inning. Designated hitter Eric Campbell led off with a single, then advanced to third on two wild pitches by Cooper. A Travis Ozga single scored Campbell, and a Zapata ground out scored catcher Juan Centento, who walked earlier in the inning.

Erie's lone run came in the bottom half of the sixth inning. After Douglas doubled down the left field line off of Wheeler, Jordan Lennerton would add a double of his own off the top of the wall in left center, scoring Douglas. Lennerton's RBI double, his 4th double on the year, came off of Binghamton reliever Jeff Kaplan, giving him 14 RBIs on the season.

The loss went to Sorensen, who struggled to get through his 2 innings of work, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and four walks, while striking out 2. Wheeler's strong outing was rewarded with a win, his first on the season.

Binghamton took 2 of 3 from Erie in the series and improved their record to 12-10. Erie falls to 9-12 with the loss.

The SeaWolves continue their homestand when the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) come to town for a 4 game series. The first game of the series will feature Erie starter Zack Segovia (1-2, 3.74 ERA) taking on Altoona starter Nathan Baker (2-2, 5.21 ERA). Monday night is Buck Night at Jerry Uht Park, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm.
