05/14/2012 3:50 PM ET
Dash outfielder Brady Shoemaker earned the Carolina League's Batter of the Week honor for his efforts May 7-13, the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is the second weekly honor in Shoemaker's minor league career.

In five games this week, Shoemaker boasted the second-best batting average in the minors. The Brazil, Ind., native hit .556 (10-for-18) with a home run and three RBI. He helped the Dash post a 3-2 mark during a five-game road trip to Frederick and Lynchburg.

Shoemaker, who turned 25 years old Thursday, capped off his week with a huge game in Winston-Salem's 9-7 victory over the Hillcats Sunday. He matched a career high with five base hits, becoming the second Dash hitter to post a five-hit effort in 2012.

On the season, Shoemaker is hitting .357 with seven home runs and 24 RBI. He sits fourth in the CL in average, tied for second in homers and tied for fifth in RBI.

This is the Dash's first weekly honor of the season. The last Winston-Salem hitter to earn the Hitter of the Week award was Tyler Saladino in August of 2011.

Shoemaker and the Dash, who currently own the Carolina League's best record at 21-13, open up a seven-game homestand with the first of four against Southern Division rival Myrtle Beach tonight at 7 from BB&T Ballpark. For more information on the homestand, visit wsdash.com.
