Olt's production twice as nice
05/27/2012 11:14 PM ET
Mike Olt's day at the plate Saturday was impressive. It was doubly impressive Sunday when he more or less repeated it.

The third baseman strung together his second three-hit, three-RBI game with a home run in as many days in Double-A Frisco's 9-5 loss to Northwest Arkansas. The day before, Texas' No. 3 prospect finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

The efforts have built on a strong May for MLB.com's No. 37 prospect. In 23 games this month, he's hit .333 with five home runs and 21 RBIs, bringing his average up to .291 in the process -- a far cry from where it sat almost exactly a month ago, when he finished April 28 hitting at a .228 clip.

The University of Connecticut product has also raised his on-base percentage to .399 and his slugging percentage .549, giving him a .948 OPS, good for fourth in the Texas League. His Texas League climb up the leaderboards has seen Olt rise to fourth in home runs with 11 and fourth in RBIs with 34.

The 2010 first-round Draft pick spent the overwhelming bulk of last season with Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach, where he hit .267 with 14 home runs and 42 RBIs in 69 games with the Pelicans.

Following the season he played with Surprise in the Arizona Fall League, hitting .349 in 27 games with 13 homers, a .433 on-base percentage and a .764 slugging percentage. The performance earned him a spot on the AFL's All-Prospect Team and a spot in the league's Rising Stars Game.

On Sunday, Jurickson Profar extended his streak of games reaching safely to 45 with a first-inning single for the RoughRiders. Leadoff man Engel Beltre went 2-for-5 with a run scored as well.

Carlo Testa fell just a single short of the cycle for Northwest Arkansas with five RBIs and two runs scored. Yuniesky Betancourt also homered and plated two runs.
