Russell To Be Honored Wednesday 06/12/2012 5:50 PM ETBy Andrew Green / Pensacola Blue Wahoos
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos have announced that Pace High School graduate and Oakland Athletics' first round draft pick Addison Russell will be on hand at Wednesday evening's game between the Blue Wahoos and Mobile BayBears to be honored and throw out a ceremonial first pitch as a send-off to his professional career with the Athletics organization. "We're thrilled to have Addison here to honor this exciting time in his life," said Blue Wahoos President Bruce Baldwin. "We wanted to be able to provide a nice big send-off and wish him the best for the next step in his baseball career." Russell was selected by the Athletics with the 11th overall pick of 2012 Major League Draft on June 4 after batting .358 with eight homers and 40 RBI for the Patriots in his senior season. He was also tabbed as the 29th best prospect overall by Baseball America before the draft. He was the sixth high school prospect to be selected in the draft, as well as Oakland's first high school first round selection since 2001. First pitch for Wednesday night's contest is scheduled to 7:00 pm at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium to kick off the Bay-to-Bay Series with Mobile. Fans are encouraged to dress in their state school's colors for the Florida vs. Alabama matchup. Tickets for the five-game series are still available and can be purchased online at BlueWahoos.com, or at the bayfront stadium's box office. |
