Reno Slams Past Bees, 12-4 06/24/2012 12:15 AM ETMajor league veteran Geoff Blum belted a grand slam to help lead the Reno Aces to a 12-4 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Saturday night. Ed Lucas hit a solo homer in the fourth to give the Bees a 4-3 lead, but three straight Reno batters reached after two outs to load the bases. Blum, who is on a rehab assignment from the Arizona Diamondbacks, lined the first pitch he saw from Steven Geltz (0-1) and parked it over the right field wall to put the Aces ahead to stay. Meanwhile, Reno pitchers Barry Enright (6-4), Taylor Sinclair and Joe Paterson combined to retire the last 16 Salt Lake batters. Doug Deeds had two hits, both of which were doubles, and scored two runs, while Kole Calhoun added two hits and one run batted in. Hank Conger went 0-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly, as his 21-game hitting streak came to an end. "Obviously right now we're going through a funk," said Bees Manager Keith Johnson. "It's that simple. It's nothing different than what we've gone through earlier in the year, we've gone through funks and we're right in the midst of one right now. Hopefully we'll be able to go out, prepare, get some good work in and finish ballgames." |
