Cardinals Slam 'Riders 6-2 06/29/2012 10:40 PM ETSpringfield, MO - Back at home for the first time in 11 days, the Springfield Cardinals found themselves in sole possession of first place for the first time this season entering the first game of a three game set with the Frisco RoughRiders. Springfield sent righty Seth Maness to the mound, a winner of three games at home in four tries, against Cody Buckel making just his second AA start for Frisco. Scoreless into the bottom of the 2nd inning, Springfield loaded the bases with one out on a fielder's choice, a single and a walk before Audry Perez blasted a grand slam to right field to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead after two innings. The homer was Perez' second and it extended his hitting streak to a team high 17 games. In the 4th, the RoughRiders were able to get on the scoreboard after a two out rally. Chris McGuinness singled through the right side before Ryan Strausborger reached on an error and Jared Hoying followed with an RBI single to right to make it a 4-1 game. Maness was able to escape any further damage by getting a ground ball. The Cardinals added a run to their tally in the 5th as Oscar Taveras came to the plate with runners on the corners and hit a ground ball to deep second base to score Greg Garcia who had singled to start the frame giving Springfield a 5-1 lead. Seth Maness allowed a run in the 6th after Mike Olt doubled and scored on an RBI groundout by Strausborger to make it 5-2. Maness was done after six allowing the two runs, one earned, on six hits with three strikeouts. Oscar Taveras added another RBI to his total in the 8th as he singled with men on the corners to give the Redbirds a 6-2 advantage. The bullpen was stellar as Deryk Hooker, Jorge Rondon and Justin Wright combined for three scoreless inning allowing just one hit to preserve the win for Seth Maness. The Cardinals will continue their three game series with the Frisco RoughRiders tomorrow night at 6:08pm.
