Orioles' Adams suspended 25 games 11/02/2012 4:48 PM ETBy Danny Wild / MLB.com
Orioles Minor League infielder Ryan Adams received a 25-game suspension on Friday after testing positive for an amphetamine. Adams, who spent most of the 2012 season with Triple-A Norfolk, will begin serving the suspension at the start of next season. The positive test was a violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program -- Adams had been a member of the Orioles' 40-man roster at the time the test was administered. Adams appeared in 65 games with the Tides after four rehab starts with two of Baltimore's short-season affiliates. He hit .225 with four homers and 21 RBIs a year after playing in 29 Major League games with the Orioles. A second-round pick in 2006, Adams led Triple-A Norfolk with 28 doubles and three triples in 2011 after setting the single-season team record at Double-A Bowie with 43 doubles in 2010. MLB has suspended 97 players in 2012 under the Minor League drug program, although Adams' ban falls under the Major League program. |
