Souza and Tepera Win Weekly Awards07/22/2013 12:07 PM ET

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 15th through July 21st.
Harrisburg Senators outfielder Steven Souza has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 15th-July 21st. The 24-year old hit .370 (10-for-27) with four doubles, one triple, two home runs, six RBI, eight runs scored, three walks and a .815 slugging percentage in seven games for the Senators last week. Souza, who is a native of Everett, Washington, reached base in all seven games he played in last week and had multiple hits in two of those games, including going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a triple, a homer, four runs scored and three RBI in a 12-3 win over Akron on Thursday night at Metro Bank Park. The 6'3", 220 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in extra-base hits (7) last week and also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in runs scored (8-tied 1st), total bases (22-tied 1st), doubles (4-tied 2nd), slugging percentage (.815-3rd), OPS (1.248-3rd), hits (10-tied 3rd), triples (1-tied 3rd), home runs (2-tied 3rd) and RBI (6-tied 8th). Steven, who his hitting .282 with 14 homers this season for the Senators and was a member of the Western Division roster for the 2013 Eastern League All-Star Game, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the third round of the 2007 draft out of Cascade High School in Everett, Washington.

Ryan Tepera, a right-handed starting pitcher for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 15th-July 21st. The 6'1", 190 lb. hurler started one game for the Fisher Cats last week and had a record of 1-0 with seven strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Ryan, who is a native of Lake Jackson, Texas, made his lone start of the week on Wednesday night against the visiting Portland Sea Dogs and earned his team-leading eighth win of the season. Tepera gave up just four hits and did not walk a batter while recording seven strikeouts over eight shutout innings in New Hampshire's 4-0 victory. The 24-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in WHIP (0.50) last week and also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in ERA (0.00-tied 1st), wins (1-tied 2nd) and batting average against (.148-8th). Tepera has a record of 8-6 with a 3.91 ERA and 85 strikeouts over 92 innings of work in a 19 games, 18 starts, for the Fisher Cats this season. Ryan, who is 2-0 with 10 strikeouts and a 0.64 ERA in two starts since the all-star break, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 19th round of the 2009 draft out of Sam Houston State University.
