Padres' Anna wins PCL batting crown09/03/2013 7:58 PM ET

ROUND ROCK, Texas - With a .331 batting average, Dean Anna of the Tucson Padres is the 2013 Pacific Coast League Batting Champion, the league officially announced today.
Anna, 26, collected 165 hits on the season, good for third-most is the league. Of that total, 52 went for extra bases, including 5 triples, 9 home runs, and 38 doubles.
The All-PCL second baseman totaled 90 runs scored, 73 RBI, and 61 walks in 132 games this season in Tucson, while also adding a .410 on-base percentage. The Mokena, Illinois native set new career-highs in batting average, hits, runs, doubles, triples, RBI, total bases (240), and games played.
Anna is the first Tucson Padres player to win the PCL Batting Title in franchise history.
To be crowned a league's batting champion, hitters in Minor League Baseball must qualify with 2.7 plate appearances per league game scheduled, equating to 389 for a 144-game schedule such as the case in the Pacific Coast League.
