RADIO BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR: Chris Harris, Jackson Generals
The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that Chris Harris has been named its 2013 Radio Broadcaster of the Year, as selected by his peers and the league's general managers.
Harris receives this award in his fifth year with the Jackson Generals as the team's Manager of Media Relations and Broadcasting. For the last seven years, Chris has done play-by-play work for the TSSAA Radio Network calling many State Championship Events in football, baseball, and basketball. Prior to joining the Generals, he was the voice of his alma mater, Bethel's basketball and football teams as well as hosting a weekday afternoon talk show on West Tennessee's ESPN Radio affiliate.
Harris resides in Lexington, Tenn. and is a graduate of Jackson Christian where he was a standout in baseball and basketball, having his name in the TSSAA baseball record books in several offensive categories. Chris holds an Associate's Degree from Jackson State and a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Bethel University. In his spare time, Harris is a die-hard University of Memphis Tigers fan.
SPORTS MEDIA AWARD: A. Stacy Long, Montgomery
Long receives this award for the second year in a row, after becoming the first recipient in 2012. The winner is selected by the league's radio broadcasters and general managers. Dominating the Southern League sports writing landscape for the last seven years, Long was the circuit's Sportswriter of the Year (this award was replaced by the Sports Media Award) in 2007, 2009 and 2011.
The Biscuits' beat writer for the Montgomery Advertiser since the club joined the Southern League in 2004, Long has established a connection with fans not only through his columns but also via his blog Biscuit Crumbs and on Twitter, among other mediums.
His in-depth coverage not limited to Montgomery, Long keeps his followers versed on significant happenings around the Southern League. He also provides frequent updates on each of the minor league teams of the Tampa Bay Rays, the parent club of the Biscuits.
