Selected by the Giants in the 5th round of the June 1998 First-Year Player Draft, but was the 10th overall selection by the Giants (San Francisco received a total of five first-round picks and a pair of second-round picks that year)...obtained by the Pirates from San Francisco on 7/30/01, along with outfielder Armando Rios, in a deal for pitcher Jason Schmidt and outfielder John Vander Wal...1995 graduate of Octorara High School in Atglen, Pa. (located near Lancaster, Pa., outside of Philadelphia)...also played baseball at Kutztown University (Pa.)...won All-American honors in 1998...wife's name is Nicole...reside in Pittsburgh, Pa.
