Selected by Oakland in the second round (60th overall) of 1999 Draft... graduated from Durango (NV) High School... attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and was named to Baseball America's Freshman All-American squad in 1997 after hitting .354 (81-for-229) with 50 runs scored, 14 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs and 68 RBI... played for Anchorage in the Alaska League during the summer of 1997, earning league All-Star honors -- batted .375 (60-for-160) with 44 runs scored, 14 doubles, 19 home runs and 53 RBI... compiled a .352 batting average (74-for-210) as a sophomore in 1998, scoring 57 runs and collecting 21 doubles, 14 home runs and 57 RBI...earned All- Western Athletic Conference honors his junior year, batting .381 (90-for-236) with 70 runs scored, 69 RBI and 19 stolen bases... played in 10 games for Phoenix in the Arizona Fall League following the 2000 season and in six games following the 2001 season before being sidelined with a back strain...he and his wife, Joanie, reside in Georgetown, Texas, with their son, Stetson Tyler (12/18/08)... His brother, Eric, appeared in 31 games at the Major League level over four seasons (1996-99) with St. Louis, Oakland and Toronto...
