Signed with the New York Mets as a non-drafted free agent in May 1999... he has played for two Minor League championship teams during his career, as Mesa (R) won the Arizona league title in 2002 and Lansing (Class A) was awarded the Midwest League title in 2003... attended Liceo Delia Reyes High School in the Dominican Republic... Played for Felix de Leon, since his high school did not have a baseball team... Founded the Santiago RBI program, which is an extension of Major League Baseball's RBI program... Program is designed to help youngsters learn the fundamentals of baseball while gaining an education... As part of the program, Reyes continues to donate money to help rebuild fields in his hometown... in 2012, he was the first player since Ryne Sandberg in 1984 to collect an "extra-inning cycle" in a season and is now 20-for-33 (.606) in extra innings since the start of 2011... Among Dominican-born players, he is the all-time leader in career triples (111), ahead of Juan Samuel (102), and is 2nd in stolen bases (410) behind Cesar Cedeno (550)... signed with the Marlins as a free agent on Dec. 7, 2011... traded by the Miami Marlins with Emilio Bonifacio, John Buck, Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson and cash to the Toronto Blue Jays for Anthony DeSclafani, Jake Marisnick, Justin Nicolino, Henderson Alvarez, Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria and Jeff Mathis on Nov. 19, 2012... signed through 2018 season.
