Selected by the Cleveland Indians in the second round (No. 48 overall) of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tennessee (Knoxville)...signed June 8...was the first Vol to be taken by Cleveland since Greg McMichael (seventh round) in 1988...played baseball for three seasons at Tennessee and was the second college catcher taken and the fifth overall in the 2003 draft...was a Freshman All-American and Team USA National Team member in 2001...suffered a broken hamate bone and underwent season-ending shoulder surgery during his sophomore season at Tennessee...hit .296 (59-for-199) with a team-leading nine home runs and 32 RBIs in 2003 for Tennessee...was acquired by the Washington Nationals via trade from the Indians, June 9, 2007...previously selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 42nd round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft out of Gulliver Prep High School (Miami, Fla.). but did not sign.
