Signed by the Chicago Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on Dec. 8, 2004 ... scouted by Jose Serra ... spent 60 games in the Dominican Summer League team in 2005, batting .289 with 14 doubles and 28 RBI as a designated hitter ... played just 10 games between short-season Boise and Rookie-League Mesa in an injury-plagued second season ... spent 2007 at Class A Peoria in his first full year behind the dish ... spent a majority of 2008 with Double-A Tennessee, batting .298 (59-for-198) in 57 games ... named to the 2008 All-Star Futures Game as the starting catcher for the World Team ... selected as the organization's fifth-best prospect heading into the 2009 season by Baseball America ... hit .232 (74-for-319) for Double-A Tennessee in 2009, collecting 16 doubles, 11 homers and 39 RBIs in 95 games ... added to the Cubs' 40-man roster on Nov. 20, 2009 ... saw his first major league action in 2010, playing in seven games with the Cubs after spending most of the season with Triple-A Iowa.
