Converted to an outfielder midway through the 2008 season after beginning his pro career in 2005 as a pitcher. In his ML career as a pinch-hitter, has batted .278 (25-for-90) with 4 HR and an .803 OPS. Hit a pinch-hit, walk-off grand slam on 8/16/11 for HOU vs. CHC, turning a 5-2 deficit into a 6-5 Astros win. Has batted .254 (163-for-642) against RHP in his ML career. Has 19 assists and 8 DP in 240 career ML games in the OF, having started 118 games in RF, 35 in LF, and 22 in CF. Ranked T-4th among National League RF with 8 DP from 2010-16, despite playing only 161 games at the position. At the minor league level, has made 207 starts in CF, 197 in LF, and 149 in RF, recording 34 assists, 6 DP, and a .988 fielding percentage. Has also made 44 starts at 1B, 31 of which came in 2010. Ranked as one of the Astros' top 30 prospects following the 2005 (No. 9), 2006 (No. 14), 2007 (No. 19), 2008 (No. 4), 2009 (No. 21), and 2010 (No. 27) seasons. Was an All-American pitcher at Tulane University, where he graduated in 2005.
