Signed by the Kansas City Royals as a Major League free agent, Nov. 29, 2007...originally selected by the Chiba Lotte Marines of the Japanese League as their No. 2 pick in 1995...name is pronounced "Yah-soo-HEE-co Yah-BOO-tuh"...attended Uenomiya High in Osaka, Japan....was a 12-year veteran of the Japanese League, spending his entire career with Chiba Lotte in the Pacific League...was 44-59 in Japan with a 4.03 ERA in 343 games (86 start)...served primarily as a starter from 1996-2003 before converting to a reliever prior to the 2004 season...played in the Industrial League of Japan prior to being drafted by Chiba Lotte...was a key component of the Japanese team that won the 2006 World Baseball Classic title.
