Selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the fourth round of the 2006 June Draft ... went 5-3 in his senior year at Vero Beach High School with a 1.09 ERA in 13 games, striking out 139 (matching his own school record) and allowing 24 hits in 74 innings ... went 8-2 as a junior with a 0.62 ERA and a school-record 139 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched ... spent three seasons in high school as a bat boy for the Dodgers during Spring Training ... named short-season Hudson Valley Pitcher of the Year after pacing the staff in starts (16), innings pitched (81 1/3) and strikeouts (62) in 2007 ... named to the 2008 South Atlantic League midseason All-Star Team ... his 3.29 ERA ranked seventh in the Rays system and eighth in the SAL ... finished sixth in the Florida State League with a 3.03 ERA in 2009 ... spent the entire 2010 season with Double-A Montgomery and was named the club's Most Valuable Player despite missing the first month with an oblique injury.
