Selected by the Chicago Cubs in the seventh round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Chipola (Fla.) Junior College ... scouted by Keith Stohr ... graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore in 2004 ... was teammates with Gavin Floyd during his freshman year ... spent his first professional season with Boise of the Northwest League, where he hit .286 in 63 games ... combined to hit .340 with 42 RBIs in 65 games between Boise and Class A Advanced Daytona ... split 2008 between Daytona and Double-A Tennessee, batting .298 with 49 walks, 25 doubles and 54 RBIs in 113 games ... in 2009, combined to hit .290 (89-for-307) with 33 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, one homer and 36 RBIs in 94 games with Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa ... named a Southern League All-Star team in 2010 and went on to hit .317 (86-for-271) with 24 doubles, five homers and 47 RBIs for Tennessee ... batted .383 (46-for-120) with a .435 on-base percentage after the All-Star break ... invited to big league camp for the third straight year in 2011.
