Signed by the Boston Red Sox as a Minor League free agent on Jan. 13, 2008. ... Ranked third in the International League in walks in 2011. ... On June 12, 2010, he became the second player to hit a grand slam on his first pitch in the Major Leagues (Kevin Kouzmanoff, Sept. 2, 2006) and the first to collect two extra-base hits in his debut. ... Led Red Sox farmhands in batting in 2009. ... Won the California League batting title and led Red Sox Minor Leaguers with a .341 average in 2008. ...
