Signed by the Atlanta Braves out of the Dominican Republic as a non-drafted free agent in November 2008 as a 17-year-old. ... Traded by Atlanta, along with with Jeff Lorick and Tyrelle Harris, to the Chicago Cubs for Derrek Lee on Aug. 18, 2010. ... Entering 2011, Lopez was ranked by Baseball America as the 19th best prospect in the Cubs system, and before the 2010 season he was ranked as the 16th best prospect in the Braves system. ... Lopez made his Chiefs debut on Aug. 22 at Clinton with two shutout innings and just one hit allowed in a no-decision. ... He came out of the bullpen in his next two outings with a win over Cedar Rapids on Aug. 27. ... Lopez started the final game of the season at Quad Cities and threw three shutout innings with two strikeouts. ...
