2017: Spent the season with Double-A Bowie, where he was 9-9 with a 4.69 ERA and a career-high 124 strikeouts... His 124 strikeouts led Orioles minor leaguers and ranked second in the Eastern League... Ranked 5th among qualifying Eastern League pitchers with 7.74 strikeouts per nine innings pitched... Allowed three earned runs or less in 17 of his 26 appearances, including one run or less in eight of his outings... Won seven consecutive decisions from 6/18 - 8/16, posting a 3.03 ERA (20 ER, 59.1 IP) with 56 strikeouts over that span... PERSONAL: John Alan Means was selected by Baltimore in the 11th round of the 2014 draft…Was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 46th round of the 2011 draft but did not sign…Attended Fort Scott Junior College for two seasons, the same school that produced former MLB first baseman Adam LaRoche...After Fort Scott, transferred to West Virginia University and went 6-2 with a 3.13 ERA his junior season...Attended Gardner-Edgerton High School (KS), where he pitched and played first base...As a senior at GEHS, he earned Second-Team All-State 5A honors.
