Selected in the second round (No. 56 overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft by the New York Mets out of the University of Florida... signed with the Mets for $1.47 million on July 14, 2023... 2023 marked the third time Sproat had been selected in a Major League Draft -- the Texas Rangers drafted him in the seventh round of the 2019 Draft but he instead went to Florida; the Mets selected him in the third round of the 2022 Draft but failed to reach a contract with him and he returned to Florida for his final year... the Mets needed his permission to draft him for a second straight year... he did not pitch for the Mets in 2023 and ended the year ranked by MLB.com as the Mets' No. 14 prospect... was ranked by MLB.com as the No. 54 prospect in the 2023 Draft class... Sproat represents the latest Florida player drafted by the Mets, who took Pete Alonso in 2016 and Christian Scott (who finished 2023 as the Mets' No. 12 prospect) in 2021... made 56 appearances featuring 37 starts in four seasons at Florida from 2020-23, when he compiled a 19-8 record, 4.27 ERA and .242 batting average against... struck out 242 batters in 223 2/3 innings in college... before Florida, Sproat pitched at Pace High School in his hometown of Pace, Florida... at Pace, he was a High Honorable Mention Senior Preseason All-America (Perfect Game), a Florida Region All-High School Senior First Team (Perfect Game), was All-Region First Team, Region 3 (National High School Baseball Coaches Association), 2019 All-State Team (Florida Athletic Coaches Association) and 2018 and 2019 Pensacola News-Journal All-Area First Team... he was selected to play in the 2019 FACA All-Star Classic at Tigertown in Lakeland... pitched for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in 2021
