2017: Split the year beteween Class-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton, combining to go 5-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 29 games (8 GS)... Named a Florida State League Midseason All-Star... In 21 games (three starts) for Tampa, held FSL batters to a .188 average (33-176)... 13 of his 21 appearances with Tampa were scoreless, and he had five hitless relief appearances... In eight games (five starts) for Trenton, went 4-0 with a 0.79 ERA (3 ER, 34.1 IP)... Limited Eastern League batters to a .132 average (15-114), with right-handers hitting just .102 (5-49) against him... In his five starts with Trenton, went 3-0 with a 0.36 ERA (1 ER, 25.1 IP), 11 hits allowed, 10 walks and 27 strikeouts... Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 24th round of the 2012 draft... Drafted out of Charles Flanagan High School (FL) which is the same high school as Major Leaguers J.D. Martinez and Mike Napoli... Threw two no-hitters as a high school senior...Is the son of former Major Leaguer Jose Mesa, who recorded 321 saves in 19 seasons with eight different teams...Jose Sr. was a two-time All-Star ('95 and '96 with Cleveland), led the A.L. with 46 saves in '95, and appeared in 27 playoff games with Cleveland ('95-'97), Seattle ('00) and Philadelphia ('07).
