51s Announce Season Awards For 2012 Campaign
51s General Manager/VP of Marketing Chuck Johnson announced the following awards: Mayor's Trophy: Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria; Most Valuable Player: Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria; Most Valuable Pitcher: Right-hander Jesse Chavez; Community Service Award: Outfielder Anthony Gose.
The Mayor's Trophy has been given annually since 1983 and is voted on by the fans.

Adeiny Hechavarria (Mayor's Trophy & Most Valuable Player): Hechavarria was the best fielding shortstop in the PCL and was named to the PCL All-Star Team on June 28 for the Triple-A All-Star Game. He appeared in 102 games for Triple-A Las Vegas and batted .312 (138-for-443) with 20 doubles, 6 triples, 6 home runs, 63 RBI (tied for the team lead with Moises Sierra) and team leader with 78 run scored.
He compiled a team-leading 43 multiple-hit games (1 four-hit game; 15 three-hit games; 27 two-hit games) and hit safely in 78 of 102 games. He recorded a season-high 12-game hitting streak (June 5-20) and batted .418 over that stretch (23-for-55). He also had hitting streaks of 9 games (May 17-25) and batted .441 (15-for-34) and 8 games (July 7-19) and batted .333 (12-for-36).
Hechavarria was promoted to the Toronto Blue Jays on August 4. He recorded his first Major League hit vs. Tampa Bay on August 7 (1-for-3) and was 1-for-3 vs. New York Yankees on August 12.
Jesse Chavez (Most Valuable Pitcher): Chavez has appeared in 18 games (started 16) for Triple-A Las Vegas and has posted a record of 8-4 with a 3.87 ERA. He has pitched 90.2 innings, allowed 82 hits and struck out 80. He posted victories against Fresno (twice), Colorado Springs, Tacoma, Reno, New Orleans, Nashville and Tucson. He pitched a season-high 8 shutout innings against New Orleans on May 12 and allowed three hits and struck out 5.
He was promoted to Toronto Blue on two occasions and has appeared in a total of nine games for the Blue Jays. He recorded the victory in relief against Oakland on August 4. In his first start of the season vs. Texas on May 27, he pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 hits, 3 runs, issued no walks and struck out 7 in the no decision.
Anthony Gose (Community Service Award): Gose is the recipient of the community service award. He has participated in various kids events, school visits, team autograph sessions, charity functions (i.e., TIP A 51) and pre-game events throughout the season.
He appeared in 92 games for Triple-A Las Vegas and batted .292 (110-for-377) with 18 doubles, 10 triples, 5 home runs, 41 RBI, 77 runs scored and 29 stolen bases (team leader). He was selected to play in the 14th annual Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game which was held on July 8 in Kansas City.
Gose recorded 36 multiple-hit games (2 four-hit games; 6 three-hit games; 28 two-hit games) and hit safely in 64 of 92 games and compiled a season-high 16-game hitting streak (May 17 - June 1) and batted .464 (32-for-69) over that stretch.
He was promoted to Toronto on July 17 and recorded his first Major League hit (bunt single) against New York at Yankee Stadium. He was 2-for-4 with a double on back-to-back games vs. Oakland (August 4 and 5). The most valuable player and most valuable pitcher were chosen by the 51s coaching staff and the community service award was chosen by the 51s front office.
The 51s, under manager Marty Brown, will embark on a season-long, nine-game road trip, beginning on Saturday in Northern California against division-rival, the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's. The four-game series will conclude on Tuesday, August 21. Las Vegas will then begin a home-and-home, nine-game series, against the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, on Wednesday, August 22 in the Pacific Northwest. The five-game series will conclude on Sunday, August 26. The two teams will then continue the series in Las Vegas with four games at Cashman Field from Monday-Thursday, August 27-30.
