LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, announced today in conjunction with USA Baseball that Cashman Field will host the USA Baseball Southwest National Team Identification Series Tryout on Saturday-Sunday, May 20-21 from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Cashman Field.
The 51s organization is working with USA Baseball to provide the opportunity to give back to the youth baseball community and to play a part in the development of local baseball players in Southern Nevada.
"We are excited to host this event in conjunction with USA Baseball," 51s President/COO Don Logan said. "This two-day event provides an unparalleled opportunity for Las Vegas high school baseball players to be identified by USA Baseball for national team consideration. They will also get to display their talents in a Triple-A stadium and on an outstanding playing surface."
The USA Baseball National Team Identification Series (NTIS) is the most comprehensive player identification program offered by Team USA. As the national governing body of amateur baseball in the United States, USA Baseball is responsible for identifying, selecting and developing the best baseball players in the country to represent the U.S. both domestically and internationally.
The Southwest Region will be one of 16 regions to participate at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina in August. The two-day tryout will provide a tremendous and unique opportunity for high school players in the greater Las Vegas area to compete for an opportunity to play on a national team.

The schedule of events will include trials for the 15U, 16U and 17U age groups.
Southwest NTIS Tryout information is as follows:
Date: Saturday-Sunday, May 20-21
Time: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Location: Cashman Field (Home of the Las Vegas 51s)
Groups: Morning group approx. from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and afternoon group approx. from 1 p.m.- 6 p.m.
Saturday (May 20) Format: Batting practice for each group then followed by a 9-inning game (2 games)
Sunday (May 21) Format: Defensive workout for each group then followed by a 9-inning game (2 games)
