WGN-TV To Broadcast Saturday's Game Between the New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs at Cashman Field
March 12, 2014

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and the Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets & 2013 Pacific Southern Division Champions, announced today that WGN-TV America (Chicago) will televise the game on Saturday, March 15 featuring the Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets at 1:05 p.m. at Cashman Field. The game will be televised in Las Vegas on Cox Cable 16 (HD 1016).

Big League Weekend features the Spring Training games with the Cubs-Mets and the two-game series, featuring split-squads, will conclude on Sunday, March 16 at 1:05 p.m.

WGN's relationship with the Cubs traces back to channel 9's inception in April of 1948. Len Kasper (play-by-play) and Jim Deshaies (analyst) will call Saturday's action from the Silver State. WGN-TV is also the home of the Chicago White Sox and the NBA's Chicago Bulls.

"We are excited that WGN-TV will broadcast the opener of Big League Weekend on Saturday," 51s President/COO Don Logan said. "The national broadcast will provide tremendous exposure for the city of Las Vegas and also the opportunity for the LVCVA to advertise into a key tourism market."

            The Cubs will be returning to Cashman Field for the 10th straight season and 13th all-time appearance in Las Vegas for Big League Weekend (1993, 1994, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013).

In 2013, the Cubs total attendance for the two-day event was 17,807. The Cubs defeated the Rangers, 5-1, on March 16 before a crowd of 9,005. The Rangers then defeated the Cubs, 8-5, on March 17 before a crowd of 8,802.

The Mets will be making their second all-time appearance to Cashman Field for Big League Weekend. New York played two games in 1997 and defeated Seattle, 4-0, on March 29 (11,310) and Boston defeated the Mets, 8-7, on March 30 before a crowd of 7,546.

The 51s, under manager Wally Backman, will open their 32nd season in the Silver State on Thursday, April 3 against the Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field.

2014 season tickets and mini-plan packages (10 & 10-Games You Pick'em, 20, 33-game plans) are available by calling the 51s office at (702) 798-7825. Individual game tickets for the 72-game home schedule will go on sale in March.
