66ers Blaze through Bakersfield

August 20, 2013

San Bernardino, CA -Things are back on track for the Inland Empire 66ers (64-63, 27-30) who snapped a three game slide with a 5-4 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze (51-76, 22-35) Tuesday night. Zach Borenstein was the hero with a home run and three runs batted in for the 66ers.

Inland Empire earned an early advantage in the first inning thanks to Alex Yarbrough's 10th triple of the season, which also put Yarbrough in 4th place in 66ers club history for hits in a single year. Next at bat Zach Borenstein kept things going with a single into left field that allowed Yarbrough to score on his triple. Inland empire headed into the second inning up 2-0 to Bakersfield.

Trailing the Blaze 4-2 entering the 6th inning, Borenstein came through to turn the game around thanks to his 25th home run of the season leaving the 66ers only one run behind Bakersfield. And in the 8th that deficit became a lead when Zach Borenstein's single was enhanced by a Bakersfield error to bring home the go ahead run. R.J. Alvarez stayed in the game to finish off the Blaze and end the 66ers slump.

Among the milestones met in the win. Zach Borenstein is now tied for 5th in 66ers history for home runs in a single season and 10th for homers in a career with 25. Alex Yarbrough moved to a tie for 3rd in club history for hits in a season and is 17 away from the record with 13 games remaining. Also, Brennan Gowens run which tied the game in the 8th was also the 100th of his professional career.
