April 7, 2013

San Bernardino, CA- -The Inland Empire 66ers (2-1) were unable to keep the season opening win streak alive, falling by a 5-1 final to the Modesto Nuts (1-2) Saturday night at San Manuel Stadium.

Once again pitching was a strong suit for Modesto with their starter Ben Alsup delivering seven shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out nine. 66ers starter Austin Wood kept up in the K department with eight strikeouts, but could not keep Modesto off the board.

Nuts clean-up hitter Jordan Ribera led the Nuts with three RBI. Meanwhile Inland Empire was unable to muster a run until the 9th inning when Ryan Jones put the team on the board with his first home run of the season.

The 66ers will try to win the season opening series outright on Sunday against the Modesto Nuts. Kramer Sneed will take the mound for the 66ers in their first day game of the season, a 2:05 start at San Manuel Stadium. The game can be heard on the home of 66ers baseball KCAA 1050 AM.
