66ers Fight Back, Fall Short 13-9 to Quakes

Ten-run Second Too Much to Overcome
June 22, 2014

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes roughed up Inland Empire in the early going on Saturday at LoanMart Field and then had to hold off a scrappy comeback by the 66ers. The Quakes eventually took game three of the four-game set 13-9 after leading 12-0 after two innings.

The Quakes (35-38, 3-0) scored twice in the first but did most of the damage in the second frame. Rancho Cucamonga scored 10 times in the second, sending 14 men to the plate. The inning was highlighted by the homers from Cal League All-Stars Corey Seager and Chris Jacobs. They both connected in the second and each have 13 long-balls in 2014.

In the contest, Aaron Miller and Adam Law each logged three-hit nights for the Quakes. Every starter had a hit for Rancho Cucamonga and seven batters logged multi-hit games as the Sixers' staff tied a season-most 18 hits allowed in the game. Dodger's infielder Juan Uribe finished with two hits and an RBI in his third rehab game with the Quakes.

Inland Empire (25-48) would not go down without a fight however. The 66ers' got three hits and a walk in the game from Riley Good while Alex Allbritton knocked in a pair of runs as the Sixers eventually chipped away at the deficit. They were able to in large part because of the efforts of bullpen righties Spencer Trygg (3.0 IP,1R, 0ER, 2K) and Michael Smith (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0R). The duo stopped the scoring; Smith faced just nine batters in three frames.

MLB rehabber Scott Elbert tossed a perfect first for the Quakes as he was the first of six RC pitchers on the night. Freddie Cabrera (3-1) earned the win with 3.1 effective innings out of the pen. Mike Clevinger (1-2) took the loss for Inland Empire after allowing eight runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings.

The series wraps up at 2:05 pm on Sunday and can be heard live at 66ers.com.
