66ers Swept by Visalia

August 11, 2013

San Bernardino, CA -The Inland Empire 66ers (62-58, 25-25) were beaten 11-1 Sunday by the Visalia Rawhide (66-54, 27-23) leaving the 66ers to cope with a three game series sweep.

Early in the game Visalia scored five runs before the start of the 5th inning with a hit machine that would eventually total a season high 20 against Inland Empire. The 66ers managed to put one tally on the score board in the bottom of the 6th when Brennan Gowens hit a fly ball to left field for a stand-up RBI triple. Despite the mid-game run production, the 66ers failed to score again and would end up falling in the most lopsided decision of the year.

The Inland Empire found some much needed relief in the 9th inning when right hander R.J. Alvarez assumed the mound. Alvarez was the only pitcher of the contest that Visalia couldn't score against, recording one strikeout and nine strikes in his fifteen pitch outing. Alex Yarbrough also provided a bright spot with a single in the 9th to bring his season total to 161, matching the effort of Chin-Feng Chen in 1999 for the 6th best individual season in team history.

The 66ers will begin a six game road trip against the Lancaster on Tuesday. Be sure to catch the game on the 66ers flagship station AM 1050 KCAA. For more information on 66ers tickets or to schedule your next fun filled group outing, contact the 66ers front office at (909)888-9922.
