Quakes Mash Middle Innings, Sweep 66ers

Ogle's Grand Slam leads Quakes
June 22, 2014

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The 66ers and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes looked destined for a pitchers' duel on Sunday at LoanMart Field as each side was held scoreless for three innings. The Quakes would unload for five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth however en route to an 8-1 win and a four-game series sweep to open the Cal League's second half.

Inland Empire starter Mark Sappington (1-5) ran into trouble when the Quakes got an RBI double from Tyler Ogle to get the ball rolling for the Rancho Cucamonga (36-38, 4-0). Sappington walked the next two batters to load the bases. Steven Proscia then lifted a ball out to left for a grand slam and a 5-0 RC lead. It was Proscia's ninth homer of the year.

The Quakes got three more in the fifth and again it was Ogle who got it going. He ripped his second RBI double in as many innings to make it 6-0. Evenutally sac flies by Aaaron Miller and Chris Jacobs would make it 8-0. Ogle finished three-for-four.

Inland Empire (25-49, 0-4) scored its lone run in the sixth when Chad Hinshaw and Dennis Raben opened the inning with singles. Cal Towey then blistered an RBI single to center to score Hinshaw and give IE its only run. Towey finished two-for-four with a single, double and his 23rd RBI.

Lyndsey Caughel pitched six strong innings out of the bullpen for the Quakes to improve to 3-3 on the season. He relieved 17-year-old Julio Urias who started the game and lasted three frames. Jake Boyd tossed two innings of one-hit relief for the SIxers.

Inland Empire opens a series on Monday versus the Lake Elsinore Storm at San Manuel Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm and can be heard live at 66ers.com.
