Aberdeen, Md. - With Opening Night 59 days away, the Aberdeen IronBirds are excited to announce the promotional schedule for the 2018 regular season! IronBirds fans will have the chance to enjoy 29 themed promotional nights as well as 9 post-game fireworks shows throughout the season.
"There's a lot to celebrate in 2018 and we're especially excited about welcoming our 2,500,000th fan to the ballpark! We have some of the best fans in baseball and we constantly strive to excite them with new and fun reasons to come catch a game at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium," said IronBirds General Manager Matt Slatus.
Opening Night is set for Friday, June 15 as the IronBirds host the Hudson Valley Renegades and features a post-game fireworks display. New for the 2018 season, fans can enjoy Happy Hour pricing at every home game beginning when gates open until 15 minutes before first pitch. Happy Hour menu items include select $3 draft beers, $2 hot dogs, $2 fountain sodas and more.
On Father's Day, June 17, the IronBirds will make their debut as the Star-Spangled Banners to celebrate Maryland as the birthplace of the national anthem. The IronBirds will play as the Star-Spangled Banners for all Sunday home games, and Military Appreciation Night (August 9) and Opioid Awareness Night (August 25), both games presented by Leidos. Prior to all Saturday home games, fans of all ages may play catch on the field and on Sundays, prior to the game, fans age 55 and up are invited to round the warning track as part of the Senior Stroll. In an IronBirds tradition, Kids Run the Bases following all Sunday games as well.
This season will also pay tribute to several Baltimore sports legends. Baseball's Iron Man and IronBirds owner Cal Ripken, Jr. will attend the game on Friday, July 20 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the end of his consecutive games played streak. On Saturday (July 21), the 1983 World Series trophy will stop in Aberdeen as part of the 35th anniversary of the Baltimore Orioles' 1983 World Series win. To cap off the Baltimore sports celebration, Aberdeen will host a Ravens pep rally with Ravens' mascot, Poe at Sunday's game (July 22). Babe Ruth Night (August 16) will commemorate the life and times of the Baltimore-born baseball legend and feature a special giveaway item for the first 1,500 fans in attendance.
In conjunction with the national Bassmaster Elite professional fishing tournament being hosted in Harford County and the weigh-ins taking place in the Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium parking lot, the IronBirds will host Outdoor Weekend July 27-29.
Many fan-favorites return this season, including Christmas in July and Bark in the Park (July 1), Star Wars Night (August 10) and Fan Appreciation Night (August 31). Following their popular 2017 debut, the Aberdeen Steamed Crabs will resurface on August 24.
Single game tickets go on sale Saturday, May 5 and can be purchased online at www.IronBirdsBaseball.com or by visiting the box office at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. Fans can also purchase a unique Star-Spangled Banners ticket package that includes a ticket to Military Appreciation Night, a Star-Spangled Banners cap, a donated game ticket to a local service member, and a $5 donation to TAPS.
