Aberdeen, MD: For the second night in a row, the Hudson Valley Renegades got a quality pitching performace from their starter. Paul Campbell tossed 5.0 scoreless innings giving up only two hits and striking out four. Aberdeen fell 3-1.
PITCHING DOMINATES: Campbell's big night overshadowed another solid pitching outing from his opposition, Hector Guance. Guance threw 4.0 innings of one run baseball. He gave up four hits, struck out three and gave up two walks. His one earned run came in the first inning, while an error let a unearned run cross the plate. After one it was 2-0 Hudson Valley
HAIR ON FIRE: For the second consecutive night, Trey Hair, provided the punch in the Renegade offense. Hair was 2-4 with an RBI single in the first inning and an RBI double in the 5th. He is 4-for-8 to start the season.
BULLPEN WORK: RHP Jesus Ortiz caused a lot of issues for IronBirds hitters in as his changeup kept them off balance. Ortiz pitched 3.0 innings of relief, giving up an earned run on three hits.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Aberdeen's starting second baseman, Milton Ramos, provided the first RBI hit of the 2018 season when he smoked a double into the left center gap in the bottom of the 7th inning. It cut the Renegade lead to 3-to-1. That would be the only run scored on the evening for the IronBirds.
BIRD WATCHIN': Just a few weeks ago, Robert Nuestrom heard his named called in the 5th Round of this years draft. The Iowa Hawkeye tomrented Big Ten pitching for the last three seasons and has carried that success over to pro baseball in his first two appearances. Tonight he was 2-for-4 with a line drive double in the 7th inning. Overall, Neustrom is 3-for-8 to start the season.
UP NEXT: The IronBirds will look ahead to tomorrow afternoon as they wrap up the three game set with Hudson Valley. First pitch will be at 4:05.
