Aces Fall in Series Opener

RENO, Nev.-The Reno Aces fell 11-5 to the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday night at Aces Ballpark, in the first of a four-game series and an eight-game homestand.

RHP Nelson Figeuroa was roughed up from the beginning, giving up five runs in the first and another six in the fourth. Homers by Juan Perez, Francisco Peguero and Brett Pill helped fuel the onslaught.

Reno managed to put up a run in the second and third innings, coming within three, down 5-2. Brad Snyder hit a towering solo home run into the Truckee River in the fourth, but the Aces trailed 11-3 until the final frame.

Fresno reliever Steve Edlefsen loaded the bases with walks and only one out in the bottom of the ninth, and Reno pushed across two runs, each off of a wild pitch.

Relievers Garrett Mock, Warner Madrigal and Bo Schultz combined to throw five shutout innings to close out the game for Reno, surrendering six hits.

Figueroa was charged with his third-straight loss of the season. He gave up 11 earned runs on nine hits through four innings.

RHP Yusmeiro Petit dealt a quality start, and earned his second win of the season. Petit gave up three earned runs on five hits through six innings, while striking out six. RHP Brett Bochy, son of San Francisco Giants Manager Bruce Bochy, threw two shutout innings of relief, giving up only two hits.

The series continues Friday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Randall Delgado (0-2, 10.80 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Fresno will counter with RHP Chris Heston (2-1, 6.86 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. PT, and fans can enjoy postgame fireworks courtesy of Saint Mary's Fireworks Friday presented by KRNV News 4.
