July 6, 2013

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-For the second-straight night, a spot starter delivered a stellar outing for Reno, but the Aces suffered a 5-4 loss in the late innings against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Saturday at Security Service Field.

In just his second career Triple-A outing, and the first since 2010, Reno starter Mark Serrano gave up just one run on four hits through 5.0 innings for the Aces. Reno's offense helped his cause, posting four total runs with Serrano on the mound.

LHP Joe Paterson was stellar across 2.0 innings of relief, giving up just one hit, before the entrance of RHP Brett Lorin.

Lorin had not given up a run, earned or otherwise, since June 14, but he was charged with four runs-three earned-in the loss. The outing marked his second-straight with a blown save, and he was also charged with the loss.

At the plate for Reno, Chris Owings snapped a stretch of six games without a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with his eighth home run of the season.

The Aces recorded 3 more hits than the Sky Sox (13), with four players having a multi-hit game Reno stranded 15 batters, tied for the second-highest mark in franchise history, as well as the second-most this season.

The series wraps up Sunday afternoon at Security Service Field, as the Aces look to secure a series split. RHP Nate Adcock (5-4, 6.98 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Sky Sox will counter with RHP Collin McHugh (3-2, 2.87 ERA). First pitch is set for 12:35 p.m. PT, and all of the action can be heard live on KPLY 630 AM.
