SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. - The Reno Aces took on the Pacific Southern Division-leading Salt Lake Bees Friday evening from Smith's Ballpark. University of Nevada alum Braden Shipley got the start on the mound for Reno, entering the game with a 5-2 record and 4.35 ERA. Shipley finished with 4.0 IP, one strikeout and allowed five runs on just eight hits. Offensively, the Aces were led by first baseman Christian Walker who finished 2-for-3 with a double (16) and a triple (3).
Salt Lake wasted little time getting into the scoring column. The Bees scored one in the first, two in the second and two in the third. Former first-round pick Kaleb Cowart hit a solo-home run in the bottom of the first inning, his fifth of the season. Two walks against Shipley and a RBI triple by Dustin Ackley extended the lead to 2-0. Michael Bourn then drove in Ackley with an RBI-single. In the third inning, four consecutive Salt Lake singles pushed the lead to 5-0.

Reno would crawl back into the ballgame in the top of the fifth inning, plating four on three hits, a walk, and a sacrifice fly. Sócrates Brito led off the fifth with a double to left field. Carlos Rivero drove him in with a line-drive single to center, narrowing the lead to 5-1. Willians Astudillo blasted his seventh double of the season to score Rivero and push Negron to third base. Ildemaro Vargas lifted a deep fly ball to left field to score Astudillo, notching his 38th RBI of the season. Reno would add one more in the sixth, but it wouldn't be enough to hold off the high-powered Salt Lake offense.
Salt Lake would bring across four more in the bottom half of the fifth inning and another four in the eighth to extend their lead to 13-5. The 13-5 loss brings Reno to a record of 42-25, six games up on the second-place Tacoma Rainiers. Reno returns to Greater Nevada Field tomorrow night where they will face the Las Vegas 51's.
