Aces Split Series with River Cats

For Immediate Release
June 30, 2013

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.-Despite jumping to an early lead, the Reno Aces suffered a 5-3 loss to the Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field on Sunday night, in the final meeting between the two teams this season.

With the loss, the clubs split the series, and Reno fell to 6-10 against Sacramento in 2013.

A double and a groundout plated two Reno batters in the top of the first, as the Aces jumped to a 2-0 lead. Sacramento posted a run in each of the next two frames to tangle the score.

River Cats starter Bruce Billings retired 17-straight Aces batters, beginning with the last out in the first, to shutout the Aces into the seventh.

With the score again tangled in the top of the eighth, this time at three apiece, Reno was unable to generate any more late-inning runs to gain an edge. Bryan Woodall came on in relief in the eighth, and gave up a solo shot to the first batter he faced, to secure a victory for the River Cats.

At the dish for Reno, Josh Wilson went 2-for-4. Chris Owings added a hit to his league-leading total (129), and also had an RBI and a run scored.

Woodall was charged with his first loss of the season in the game. Reno starter Charles Brewer dealt a quality start, but did not factor into the decision.

Reno returns to Aces Ballpark on Monday for a three-game set against the Salt Lake Bees. RHP Zeke Spruill (3-3, 4.06 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Bees will counter with LHP Dustin Richardson 1-0, 0.00 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and fans can enjoy Margarita Monday presented by Alice @ 96.5 with half price margaritas, as well as $1 hot dogs.
